Common Signs it is Time for a New Radiator

Common Signs it is Time for a New RadiatorMost vehicles, including BMWs, utilize a liquid cooling system made up of a radiator, belts and hoses and a number of other parts to help keep the engine operating temperature regulated. The radiator plays an important part in this system, as it is what reduces the temperature of the coolant that moves through the engine. If you encounter any of the following issues with your BMW then it may be time for a new radiator.

Rising temperature gauge

It is important to keep an eye on the temperature gauge on your vehicle's dashboard. This informs you if the engine is running too hot. If it is you will want to pull over and let the engine cool. This could be a sign that it is time for cooling system repair, which may mean a new radiator.

Steam coming from engine area

If white steam begins to pour out from under your BMW's hood it is likely that it is overheating, which means that it is operating at high temperature levels which may be harmful to the engine. Pull over immediately and open the hood to let the engine cool. Once the motor is cold check your fluid levels to ensure they are adequate. If not it may be necessary to add more coolant, but it may need to be mixed with water. Contact your local BMW service center to further discuss your car's needs.

Coolant spray

If you pop the hood of your BMW and notice spots of rust or paint discoloration all over the engine, it may indicate that there is a pinhole in the radiator that is causing coolant to spray over the hot engine parts. This coolant will boil off wherever it lands, taking the paint with it.

Coolant leak

If you notice a bright green liquid dripping from your car then you've just discovered a coolant leak. It may be a radiator leak, but it could come from any number of cooling system parts, including hoses.
