The Importance of an Oil Change for a BMW

Changing ant vehicle's oil is absolutely necessary, but does it really need to be done so often? The interval at which you change your vehicle's oil depends on the recommendation provided by your vehicle manufacturer. Some vehicles can travel as far as 10,000 miles without needing an oil change, but for most cars and trucks the service should be performed between every 3,000 and 5,000 miles, be sure to check your BMW owner's manual to find your correct interval. So why is it necessary to have an oil change completed so often? There are three very important reasons.

Engine Temperature

Fresh engine oil is engineered to provide additional support to the cooling system when it comes to regulating engine temperature. The oil absorbs heat helping to create a cooler environment and keep everything running smooth. As oil ages it breaks down and loses its ability to perform this function. Old oil can actually reflect heat, causing the interior temperature to rise which may cause mechanical problems for your vehicle.

Remove Grime

Another important reason to change the oil on time is to remove sludge from inside the motor. As oil circulates through the engine it picks up dirt and debris that has made its way inside. When you drain the old oil it removes this stuff that causes your engine to have to work harder than necessary. By removing this sludge you will be restoring your vehicle's ability to maintain optimum fuel efficiency and power.

Proper Lubrication

The most important reason to change the oil is to ensure proper lubrication for your engine. Metal on metal contact can cause major issues for your vehicle and actually cause complete engine failure. A lack of lubrication will wear down engine bearings which will then begin to create a loud knocking noise that will eventually lead to major damage. To ensure that your BMW will last for many, many miles, never skip oil changes. Talk with your mechanic about how often your particular vehicle should be having this service.

Never put off oil changes, as they are a mandatory service your BMW requires for healthy driving. Remember, changing the oil restores fuel efficiency and power by essentially cleaning out the inside of your engine. If you need a BMW oil change in Dallas - Fort Worth head to DFW Bimmer in Euless.
